So we promise to start blogging more…really! We’ve been busy jeeze! Andy and I just got back from almost two weeks of traveling. We played three dates in Iowa…yes Iowa! Java Coffee in Cedar Rapids was great! The vibe was awesome and the food was great, thanks to Ben for booking us we look forward to playing again. I really loved playing the Kirkwood Lounge in Des Moines myself. The beer was great and we met some great people (shout out to Ashley). Also thanks to Eric Biase for helping out, what a great help u were! Oh also Andy and I were busking to try and promote for the show in Iowa. We tried to play on the fairgrounds since the state fair was going on and got kicked out and accused of lying…ha! We even bought a permit from city hall for five bucks! The other time we got asked to play four this guys wife inside a restaurant. We played happy birthday for her and ended up making $40! It was awesome.

So this trip was just Andy and me doing Shaw Brothers tunes and the main destination was the Song School in Lyons Colorado…or some may call it paradise. Well I do. Most mornings I would wake up, get some chocolate chip zucchini bread provided by the camp, go to the river that flowed through our camp site, stretch, write a bit and just soak in the peaceful vibes. This place was special and the people we met were so great. All songwriters working on their craft. If you wanted to get better at performance, business, the emotional side of writing, learn about publishing, it was all there. My favorite teachers were Anais Mitchell, Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion, and Mary Gauthier..oh and Chicago Mike was great. Check out Bluegrass.com and go to the Song School link trust me if you’re a songwriter it’s so wo
rth checking out.

Right now Andy Shaw Band is on it’s way to Lexington to play Cheapside Tavern. We really liked this place last time and are excited to play again. We’re doing Hideaway tomorrow in Louisville and then the Ohmstead Festival Saturday! This is just a short run but in September we hit up around 10 cities in Florida! It’s a big step for us and the ASB team has been working their tales off to get this thing booked ! Thanks to Genean, Andy (duh), and Jim for working on this. I have not been doing any of the booking so thanks from me especially! So much going on, we will be posting soon thanks for everyones support. Please check our website for dates and tell your friends when we come into their cities!
